The long-awaited scanner finally arrived today! This means I can start posting some of the silly things I've been drawing on paper in my spare time, and hopefully will encourage me to work more and learn some new things while I'm at it. I haven't touched these pictures up yet, since I'm tired after work and don't really feel like slaving over my tablet... But I will try to get the wrinkles out of the paper with the clone tool later, and perhaps add something of a... background or surrounding to some of them, perhaps. In any case, here are some previews:

Number One: Haras:

With really no idea what I was doing, I doodled with with one hand while I was on the phone with my mother. I decided he was some kind of shiny golden bird-headed god, and named him Haras: partly in homage to Horus, who everyone keeps saying he reminds them of, and partly after the dragon quarters overseer of Mercedes Lackey's dragon jouster series... Teeheee :D

In any case, this was my first experiment with using the watercolour pencils, and you can probably tell I wasn't that careful with them when I was colouring, or even with my pencil when I was drawing. All in all, it's lacking polish, but I still like him and his teeny little wings. :)

Number Two: Setsuul:

With a little bit more of an idea what I wanted to do now and how I was going to colour it, I set out to draw a feathery snake-god. I'm honestly not sure if I like the feathers even now, and getting a silver-coloured metal right was certainly a learning curve... But I still really like his face, and the colours the body got worked into. He's named Setsuul, pretty much because I randomly decided on it.

Number Three: As Yet Unnamed:

As per usual, high on my agenda was some kind of fish. I haven't found a name for her yet, but she wears a crown! I think that's awesome even if no-one else does. I loosely based some of her attributes on my bettas at home, but... Well, you can tell that she's a fantasy fish, I suppose. XD

You might be able to tell from this one that I've really grown into the watercolour pencils as a medium, and I'm much more skilled at manipulating them in the way I want, now. I have a larger range of colours than I thought I did to begin with, and found ways to blend them that look really nice. I wish I hadn't used quite so much water that the paper completely warped out of all proportion, but I'm still infinitely pleased with this one, and if I could I would draw it again a hundred times.

All three of these drawings could benefit from touching up and a bit of digital manipulation... While I'd really like to dedicate myself to doing that, I'm not sure if I will just for the moment.. I'm still playing and learning, and I'd rather be drawing new things than sticking around on the same three things that I've spent the last few weeks on. Still, valuable learning experiences, and I think that they are gradually turning out better and better! I think my next experiment will involve actual watercolour paper, for one thing, so that I don't get the funky warped effect that I am far too lazy to clone-stamp away right now.

Comments of course, are perfectly welcome ♥
